THE BEAT FESTIVAL Friday 6th of September (Oysterbay, Dar es Salaam)

Friday 06.09.13

20.00-01.00

Venue: Triniti, Msasani rd. 26, Oysterbay DSM

Entrance: 10.000 tsh only

Lineup:

BAIKOKO – traditional / urban

Their name comes from a traditional dance style, which originates from Tanga. The style has taken Dar es Salaam by storm and left the media and audiences in difference of opinion over the explicit sexual dance style. The music is an urban, localized style of Taarab, based on percussion and led by the unique blown-instrument called “boya” which is a sea buoy attached with a drain pipe which creates a bassline that interlocks with the percussion.

KIFIMBO - reggae

Kifimbo is an upcoming reggae star on the Tanzanian scene. During the recent reggae festival in Iringa he stole the show with his energetic performance. We look forward to welcoming a new act onto the Dar es Salaam scene.

MZUNGU KICHAA – urban

Mzungu Kichaa plays guitar and sings in Swahili and English. Debuting in 2009 with his album Tuko Pamoja, Mzungu Kichaa and his band Bongo Beat have created a unique style of Congolese inspired Bongo Flava. Mzungu Kichaa and the band have just returned from a tour in Europe where they performed at a number of summer festivals.

THE BEAT is powered by: Caravan Records, Radio France International (kiswahili) and Goethe - Institut Tanzania.
